Get Fit! Kit
Our Get Fit! Kit offers a wealth of research-based activities and resources that can easily be integrated into any early childhood program and shared with families. Together, we can help children lead healthier, more active lives.
Let’s take action in the classroom! Early childhood is the time where lifestyle patterns such as healthy eating and physical activity are established. The Get Fit! Kit is bilingual, with materials in Spanish and English. It directly supports the recommendations in the Let’s Move! Child Care Checklist, and complements any developmentally appropriate curriculum. Early childhood educators and families can get involved in starting children on the path to a healthier life.
Doing more doesn’t require a lot of extra work on your part. This Get Fit! Kit gives you a wealth of activities you can integrate easily into your current program. You don’t need any special materials to implement the activities. You only need common equipment like balls, hoops, jump ropes, ribbons, scarves, and beanbags. Some activities don’t require any materials at all. It also includes practical resources for making families your partners in preventing obesity.
In the Get Fit! Kit you will find:
A Guide to the Get Fit! Kit, by Diane Trister Dodge and Heather Baker, which describes all of the resources and suggests how to use them.
36 Intentional Teaching Cards™, which describe engaging, playful activities that promote physical skills and support healthy eating choices.
20 Mighty Minutes™, which offer quick activities for in-between times of the day to keep children engaged and active.
Our Objectives for Development and Learning, Birth Through Kindergarten Classroom Poster, which features research-based objectives which are referenced in the activities and reinforce a focus on the whole child.
20 copies of Physical Activity Right From the Start: What Parents Can Do in the First 5 Years, which is a helpful booklet to share with families.
23 LearningGames®, which offer simple activities addressing physical skills and healthy eating that families can incorporate into everyday life.
With our bilingual Get Fit! Kit, it’s easier to do your part toward raising a healthier generation of children.
