Harnessing the Power of ‘How’ to Promote Deep, Reflective Thinking
Thursday, February 18, 2021 | 2:00 PM EST
In this session, participants will learn strategies for creating learning environments that encourage young learners to engage in deep, reflective thinking through the use of ‘how’ questions. Deep, reflective thinking is an essential skill for all learning domains. This includes conducting inquiry and investigative learning; increasing background knowledge necessary for emerging language and literacy skills; developing mathematical mindsets; building social-emotional competencies; and supporting approaches to learning. Using ‘how’ questions creates a classroom culture in which children are able to demonstrate their thinking, defend their positions, and provide reasoning for their responses.
