Introductory Sessions for Teachers

Exploring the Curricular Foundation

Teachers learn how to design an effective learning environment, develop a daily schedule that reflects programmatic and curricular objectives, and incorporate intentional teaching throughout the day to support each child’s development and learning in all areas.

2 Days

Implementing The Creative Curriculum® for Preschool

Teachers explore The Creative Curriculum® for Preschool in detail and learn how to use it effectively in the classroom. After examining the 38 objectives for development and learning that inform every interaction with children, teachers practice using the curricular volumes, Teaching Guides, and daily resources—Intentional Teaching Cards™, Mighty Minutes®, and additional daily teaching tools—together to individualize learning and maximize child outcomes.

2 Days

Intentional Teaching in the Interest Areas

Teachers learn to be purposeful as they create an environment and interact with children in the interest areas and outdoors. In addition to planning the physical spaces, teachers learn strategies for interacting with children in ways that support their development and learning related to the curricular objectives while encouraging children’s explorations and creativity.

Promoting Learning Through Studies

Teachers explore the nature and benefits of “studies,” long-­term investigations of topics that interest children, are relevant to their lives, and require them to use a variety of important skills. Topics include choosing an appropriate topic, planning, documenting children’s learning, and involving families.

Continuing Sessions for Teachers

Supporting Early Mathematical Learning

Using Volume 4: Mathematics as a guide, teachers become familiar with the research related to how preschool children learn mathematical concepts and process skills, examine the components of mathematics that form the basis of instruction, and explore ways to incorporate developmentally appropriate mathematics activities in meaningful ways throughout the day.

Supporting Language and Literacy Development and Learning

Using Volume 5: Language and Literacy as a guide, teachers learn how to be intentional as they teach important language and literacy skills and incorporate language-rich, meaningful experiences into everyday classroom practices.

Supporting Social–Emotional Development and Learning

Teachers explore their role in promoting the healthy social–emotional development of preschool children. Topics include the importance of planning, appropriate expectations for children’s behavior at different ages, using positive guidance strategies, and the impact of the environment on children’s social–emotional development.

Supporting Dual-Language Learners

Teachers learn how to use The Creative Curriculum® for Preschool and GOLD® to address the needs of children who are learning English as a second language. After becoming familiar with basic theories of second-language acquisition in young children, teachers explore strategies for supporting children’s acquisition of English while supporting their home-­language development, assessing children who speak a home language other than English, and building effective and respectful partnerships with families.

Introductory Sessions for Teachers

Introduction to The Creative Curriculum® for Infants, Toddlers & Twos

This hands-on session guides teachers and caregivers through every component of the expanded The Creative Curriculum® for Infants, Toddlers & Twos, a research-based, comprehensive curriculum that focuses on building warm, nurturing relationships with the youngest learners and intentionally promoting their development and learning in all areas. Participants first explore the three curriculum volumes and practice with the new daily resources—Intentional Teaching cards, Mighty Minutes®, and additional daily teaching tools—to plan and implement meaningful routines and intentional experiences for all the children in a language-rich environment. To strengthen assessment skills, teachers will use Volume 3: Objectives for Development & Learning, Birth Through Third Grade to practice documenting their observations of young children and to plan for and scaffold their learning.

Implementing the Curriculum in Your Program for Infants, Toddlers, and Two Year-Olds

Teachers and caregivers explore the curriculum in depth and learn how to plan individualized routines and experiences that are responsive to young children’s needs and that support their development and learning in all areas. Participants will first become familiar with the objectives for development and learning that inform every aspect of teaching and caregiving and then learn how to use the objectives to plan responsive and developmentally appropriate routines and experiences for the children in their care.

Teachers learn practical strategies for building and maintaining partnerships with children’s families that are based on trust, cultural awareness, and mutual respect.

After exploring the curriculum in depth, administrators use new knowledge and shared experiences to develop a robust training and support plan for teachers/caregivers at different levels of experience and develop strategies for providing positive, ongoing support.

Coaching Sessions

Sessions for Administrators and Coaches

Coaching Teachers to Fidelity of Implementation

Administrators and others who provide direct classroom support to teachers learn how to use Coaching to Fidelity and The Fidelity Tool for Administrators to support teachers at all levels in their implementation of The Creative Curriculum® and/or GOLD®. In addition to exploring these resources, participants discover effective approaches to use when observing teachers and building relationships, tips for using the fidelity resources effectively, and strategies for supporting teachers at different levels of implementation.

2 Days

Custom Coaching Support with Classroom Observation and Action Planning

Using the Coaching to Fidelity tools, administrators and coaches will receive direct and custom support on observing instruction, reviewing documentation and evaluating data in order to address the specific needs of their program. This coaching relationship will last throughout the year with the option of coaches applying for the Accreditation Program for Trainers.
