Ethan originally worked in the gaming industry as the head of online systems for a gaming company, working hand in hand with game designers and marketing to build features that would grow our user base across the world.

When looking for a new role, Ethan searched for a company with a mission that had a bit more meaning to the world and was organized to execute a great vision. Over the years, his role at Teaching Strategies has evolved, but he predominantly works on building deployable systems that can maintain a good percentage of uptime. As of late, his day-to-day is filled with custom projects or porting older production systems to newer and ideally more maintainable systems.

Recently, we asked Ethan to share his thoughts on work and life at Teaching Strategies.

What motivates you to work in the ed tech field?

I think the ed tech space is super interesting. It’s exciting to introduce cutting-edge technology to school systems, but it’s also crucial to maintain the highest level of integrity with its uses. It is a really challenging problem because we have to understand technology at every level of our business in order to convey our technology’s value.

What positive changes have you seen at Teaching Strategies from when you joined?

I think our product team has grown their capabilities by leaps and bounds since I’ve been here. How we think about children and teachers has improved, and they are at the forefront of the decision-making process when we develop our products.

How does your experience give you a unique perspective while working on Teaching Strategies products?

I think that my experience lets me understand what it actually takes to build things and generate revenue regardless of the mission. It’s not easy running a business, let alone a business in any technology space.

As tech continues to evolve, how do you think our products will be improved by these changes?

I think Teaching Strategies is in a unique position to guide school systems through some of the hardest changes in education. I think the commitment the company has to integrity for its customers creates trust. I think that is the most important element of any product of the future—trust. Technology in the education space is going to get really confusing in the next 10 years, and Teaching Strategies will be there to make the right choices for education.
