The science of reading refers to the extensive, growing body of research that helps explain how we learn to read.

Is there a science of reading curriculum?

The Creative Curriculum is rooted in the science of reading and includes instruction based on the 5 pillars of the science of reading; however, there is no singular product or curriculum available for the science of reading.

The reading brain develops when phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension are intertwined. Young children acquire these skills over time with support from educators who have a deep understanding of the importance, complexity, and nuance of the science of reading and apply its design into developmentally appropriate, rigorous learning experiences.
