Throughout the session, participants will become familiar with the characteristics, purpose, and components of The Creative Curriculum® for Transitional Kindergarten: California. They will explore and practice using the 38 objectives for development and learning and will closely examine The Creative Curriculum® for Transitional Kindergarten: California’s knowledge-building volumes. Participants will be introduced to strategies for preparing and maintaining an engaging physical environment and will practice using Mighty Minutes®, Intentional Teaching Experiences, Book Discussion Cards®, Highlights High Five Bilingüe®, Book Conversation Cards®, and other resources to enhance teaching and learning. Through large- and small-group discussions and activities, participants will learn how Teaching Guides support the implementation of a meaningful study. During this 6-hour advanced session for users of The Creative Curriculum® for Transitional Kindergarten, participants will discover techniques for facilitating important content learning, including literacy and mathematics learning, in interest areas. Participants will be introduced to a collection of helpful teaching strategies that nurture creativity, encourage problem-solving, and engage children in critical thinking. Through discussions and activities, teachers will examine their role in supporting, and extending, high quality play experiences during Choice Time. Educators will learn how to integrate science and technology throughout the day and will discover how in-depth, project-based investigations support STEAM learning in the transitional kindergarten classroom. Participants will unpack strategies for teaching children about physical science, life science, the earth and the environment, and, through hands-on interactive activities, explore the four steps of the engineering design process.
