Enhancing Interrater Reliability for GOLD®

Interrater Reliability is a process designed to verify a teacher’s ability to assign accurate and reliable assessment levels to observations and documentation of children’s knowledge, skills, and abilities. Achieving Interrater Reliability means that a teacher’s assessment decisions align with those of the expert raters at Teaching Strategies® who developed GOLD® as a system to support ongoing, authentic, observation-based assessment. Achieving interrater reliability (or reliability for any tool) can be challenging. During this 3-hour session, participants will be introduced to helpful strategies for navigating the interrater reliability process successfully. Additionally, participants will be led by a Teaching Strategies® expert through a series of practice exercises, evaluating example evidence of social-emotional, physical, language, cognitive, literacy, and mathematics development and learning and hearing details on why a piece of documentation and the knowledge skills and abilities it reflects is assigned a particular rating. Note: Participants must complete Introduction to GOLD® prior to this session.

During this 6-hour session, participants will learn about the impact trauma and adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) have on a child’s development and learning. Educators will examine the body’s physiological responses to stress, the four functions of all human behavior, and mitigating factors and protective and compensatory experiences (PACEs) that can reduce the impact of ACEs and trauma. Participants will be introduced to Noni® resources, including The Power of Relationships: A Practitioner’s Guide to Trauma-Sensitive Teaching, Self-Care Cards, Teaching Practice Cards, the Noni® app, and the Teacher Reflection Journal. Educators will learn how to navigate and leverage these tools to respond to challenging dysregulated behaviors experienced in the classroom. Finally, participants will learn about the importance of prioritizing their own mental well-being and will create a personalized self-care plan.

This hands-on 2-day session, facilitated in Spanish, guides participants through every component of The Creative Curriculum® for Infants, Toddlers & Twos, a research-based, comprehensive curriculum that focuses on building warm nurturing relationships with young learners and promotes their development and learning in all areas. Participants will explore the three curricular volumes, which discuss in detail the latest childhood development theory and research. Additionally, participants will learn how to promote children’s progress and offer active, individualized interactions during routines and experiences. During the session, participants will learn how to set up a successful and supportive environment for children and families. Participants will have an opportunity to interact with the Daily Resources, including Intentional Teaching Experiences, Mighty Minutes® for Infants, Toddlers & Twos, Book Conversation Cards®, and Highlights Hello® and practice using them to plan and implement meaningful routines and intentional experiences for all the children in their care.

This highly interactive 2-day session, facilitated in Spanish, introduces participants to The Creative Curriculum® for Preschool. Throughout the session, participants will become familiar with the characteristics, purpose, and components of The Creative Curriculum® for Preschool. They will explore and practice using the 38 objectives for development and learning and will closely examine The Creative Curriculum® for Preschool’s knowledge-building volumes. Participants will be introduced to strategies for preparing and maintaining an engaging physical environment and will practice using Mighty Minutes®, Intentional Teaching Experiences, Book Discussion Cards®, and, if applicable, Highlights High Five Bilingüe® and Book Conversation Cards®. Through large- and small-group discussions and activities, participants will learn how Teaching Guides support the implementation of a meaningful study. Participants will be introduced to the three main parts of a study and will learn how to integrate content learning into daily events.
